Because working with Swindon Academy is a part of what we do, because we are the Chaplaincy team there, we help out with ABC – Week. It is a week full of different activities for the students of every year.
This year we helped out with the year 7 students to run their activities. On the Monday we took two groups of about a hundred students out for a litter pick around Pinehurst to make them aware of how it could look like if we all decrease the amount of litter we drop. While we were taking one group out the other was watching the film “pay it forward” which is all about paying favours forward to other people and make their life a little bit better.
On Tuesday and Wednesday we split about 50 students into three groups for different gardening projects. Two of the projects were pout in the community to help people who weren’t able anymore to clear out their gardens and turn them back into nice gardens. Most of the work was cutting grass, trees and hedges and remove any unwanted weeds that were growing in there. The third project was at Swindon Academy and the task was to turn a ragged and overgrown piece of land into a primary garden with raised beds and a nature path with animals made out of tyres.
It was a lot of work for all of us especially in this massive heatwave, which didn’t make it easier but all of the students gave their best and the results speak for themselves. They did a great job and really helped a lot of people to turn their community into a nicer place 🙂
